THE NEW HYBRID

For my son’s 7th birthday, his “meemo” surprised him with a big boy bicycle.  As posted earlier, with the help of the bike whisperer, my oldest son now knows how to ride a bike.  As I was buying him a bike helmet, all of the gorgeous adult bikes caught my eye.  I thought to myself, I should get a bike so that my son and I could explore together.  And then the wonderful idea hit me that my youngest son and my (uncoordinated ) husband should get bikes as well.  The family that rides together is the family that stays together!  I convinced husband to buy me a bike for Christmas.  I went down to the store and tried all of the different bikes out.  Gone are the days of Huffy bikes from my childhood.  These new bikes are like pieces of art– streamlined, sleek and colorful.  I picked out a gorgeous vintage looking bike called the Amsterdam, made by a bike company in Carlsbad called Electra.  We live in California, the land of sunshine and even more, we have all become eco-conscious! We should use the bike mode of transportation whenever possible.  Whether it is running out for a cup of coffee or picking up milk from the market, the bike is the perfect way to travel.  And if you pimp your bike out with a wicker basket, carrying home groceries is a cinch.  My plan is to start a bike riding club.  Anyone want to join???  Don’t forget the horn.
