Lifestyle Lemonaid » Fashion http://www.lifestylelemonaid.com Just another WordPress site Mon, 06 Feb 2012 16:03:10 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.3.1 SNACK MOM http://www.lifestylelemonaid.com/2012/01/snack-mom/ http://www.lifestylelemonaid.com/2012/01/snack-mom/#comments Mon, 30 Jan 2012 15:42:28 +0000 Lifestyle Lemonaid http://www.lifestylelemonaid.com/?p=4239 Last week, I was lucky to be snack mom at school.  I had worked all week (showing property… yeah yeah, just call me Annette Bening from American Beauty!)  and I was tired.  It was a free day of sorts where I could hang with the boys at school, lunch with a friend, and get a wax.  Days like this don’t come around too often for me.  The question was how to dress for the day?  Which Nikki was I going to be?  On mom days, I love to be comfortable.  Comfort for me is NOT a pair of tight jeans but a soft, thin pair of leggings which Husband refers to as the urine trappers.  I’m not talking about the costly, promise you a yeast infection leggings from the likes of Lulu Lemon but my faves from Target.  You would think at $6 a pair, Husband would be telling me to stock up.  Not so!  Instead when he catches me wearing the leggings, he demands I change.  Not the point of this post though.  The point is there are people who always look put together.  How abut the girls who fly across the country in tight jeans and high boots.  They cruise through airports looking like super models.  How do they do it?  I spend so much time preaching to my single friends that future husbands can be met at airports, Starbucks, or markets.  But, really?  How miserable is it to sit in skin tight skinny jeans for 10 hours.  I’m itching just thinking about it!  But, there are just people who look effortlessly put together for any situation including snack mom.  As much as I want to be that girl, I am not.  At best, on a non work day when I have the opportunity to be comfortable, I wear a hybrid of comfort clothes with a dash of glamour albeit in big earrings and Glam sunnies.  That is good enough for me!

For this month’s Featured Slice, we chose fashion elitist and the creator of Pink Memo, Maxine Trowbridge. Not only does she have an adorable British accent but wicked style and amazing work ethic. We are always drawn to women like this –  the ones who know who they are and how to make things happen!

1. What is your favorite coffee table book?
I have many coffee books—private islands, fashion, art, interior design, and mythology—but my favorite would have to be Cuttings from Contemporary Fashion published by Phaidon. This book features over 100 fashion designers and represents their conceptual angle of inspiration.

2. What symbol best represents you and why?
Well, to choose a symbol, I would have to refer to my star sign—I am Libra. The characteristic summarizes my personality perfectly.

3. Favorite denim brand of the moment?
Joe’s Jeans recently purchased The Visionnaire – the perfect skinny bootcut, but with a high waist. Super soft, and I love dark denim.

4. Favorite online shopping site?
I love shopping online—shopping in your own neighborhood can be rather limiting, and the Internet opens up access to everything rather than being pigeonholed into your demographic. Net-a-Porter.com – need I say more, and FarFetch.com allows you to shop the best boutiques around the world. Also, I am probably one of the rare few that does not enjoy flash sale sites, I prefer to grab a bargain at my own pace, so OutNet.com is my preferred choice for designer deals. I do love 1stDibs.com.

5. Item you would never check in baggage claim cause you just can’t live with out it?
Now that would be my iPad – unlike my laptop, this is purely for fun and it saves carrying multiple books and magazines, I get to read whatever I download and not worry about the weight. I like to have multiple books and magazines going at the same time. So convenient!

6. What quality do you most admire in another person?
Integrity and honesty – say what mean and mean what you say. People judge you by your actions, not your statements, and if you never fulfill your statements, then your word is meaningless.

7. Who is your style icon?
Daphne Guinness makes a profound fashion statement that is undeniably iconic. Audrey Hepburn has always been a favorite, but her style shines through from the great roles that she played – Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Roman Holiday. Whereas Coco Chanel was revolutionary in style, she defined a new wardrobe for women that epitomized a sophisticated-casual sense of style, during an era that was still very formal.

8. One person living or dead you would like have a cup of tea with?
Anna Wintour of course—I would love to pick her brain about absolutely everything.

9. Best professional advice ever given to you.
More motivational than advice, I was told, there is no such word as can’t and where there is a will, there is a way – I use this a lot for problem solving. Never say, “I can’t do it.”

10. Best personal advice ever given to you.
Recently received this piece of advice, and still working on it—stop working so hard and enjoy what you have in life. Which is easier said than done.
